Heads up - Dead as of 2026-09-01: the 3D Companions mode was removed from the Grok app. The characters' 'new home' is a different company's app (Animates) with separate accounts, its own subscriptions and no data transfer; no refund terms were published for SuperGrok subscribers.

2026-09-01 Companions removed: an in-app notice on the Companions screen set September 1, 2026 as the date the 3D animated Companions (Ani, Valentine, Mika, Rudi) leave the Grok app and directed users to Animates, a separate app by Animation Inc — the studio that built Grok's avatars — as the characters' 'new home'. The characters' X accounts had already moved from the xAI organisation to Animates on 08-17. Animates is a different company with its own accounts and subscriptions (Whisper $7.99/mo, Heartbeat $19.99/mo, Presence $39.99/mo per its App Store listing) and no data transfer from Grok. Removal landed account by account. App flipped from zombie to dead; obituary updated; Animates added to the tracker.
