Documented fee traps

A fee trap is a charge pattern verified in the operator's own terms or pricing pages — never sourced from user complaints. The tracker currently flags 3:

CamSoda AI — Advertised $0.99–$2.99/mo is intro pricing — the subscription auto-renews at $19.95/mo per their own terms, and unused tokens are forfeited when you cancel.
Kupid AI — Charges a $3.99/mo data-retention fee on top of subscriptions — an unusual, user-hostile line item
DreamGF — Advertised prices are first-payment only — per their own pricing pages, the monthly plan renews at $25.99/mo (double the $12.99 intro), quarterly at $77.97, annual at $311.88.

2026 shutdowns

3 graveyard entries date to 2026. Every death gets a dated obituary with sources; the full record is in the graveyard.

Rolemantic AI — died 2026-07-31. Unstated. The sunset FAQ counts down the dates; it never says why.
Digi — died date unknown — pronounced in absentia, 2026-07-31. Vanished. Last app update 2024-05-31, X account suspended, domain no longer answering when we checked. No announcement, no export, no goodbye.
The Great Uncoupling — died 2026-07-15. China's Interim Measures for AI Anthropomorphic Interactive Services. Rather than build the mandated age checks and emotional-reliance monitoring, the giants switched their companions off.

Latest tracked changes

2026-08-06 OurDream AI: CrakRevenue PPS payouts confirmed tiered at T1 $48 / T2 $44 (offer 10138), and the premium lane at $55 (10402) remains approval-gated. The revshare lane (10139) is unchanged at 30%. Per-click earnings run the opposite way to the payout headline: revshare EPC $0.5449 vs $0.2561 on the gated premium PPS and $0.0857 on standard PPS.

Sample: the 36 AI companion apps in the tracker database (inclusion criteria on the methodology page), tracked since 2026-07-02. Collection: pricing and policy fields are re-checked against the operator's own pages on a rolling pass; a value counts as verified only when we loaded the primary source on a dated visit. Unverified values come from secondary sources and are excluded from the price-range statistics above. Shutdown data comes from dated obituaries with public sources. Every figure regenerates from the database on each site build — this page cannot disagree with the tracker. Cite freely with a link to this page.
