What happened
SpicyChat announced the rise ahead of time on a help-center page, the 'September 2026 Pricing Update FAQ'. The Internet Archive's copy from August 31 already lists the old and new prices side by side and says the change is 'taking effect September 8'; its 'Last updated 2 days ago' line puts publication around August 29. The FAQ gives no reason for the rise and says nothing was taken away: 'This was purely a price change', and every tier keeps 'exactly what it included before'.
Existing subscribers keep their price, on conditions. A recurring subscription that started before the change 'will keep renewing at the price you were already paying — as long as you keep it active and don't change plans.' Any change of plan, including monthly to yearly, ends that: 'Any change moves you to current pricing.' So does letting it lapse: 'Once it fully expires, the price can't be restored.' That includes a card that keeps failing, which SpicyChat retries 'a few times before your subscription expires'. People who pay by a method that does not renew automatically get no locked price. There is no end date on the lock, but SpicyChat will not promise 'forever', 'because we can't predict what the cost of running AI models looks like years from now.'
Before September 8 the same FAQ told readers how to get ahead of it: 'If you upgrade before the change takes effect, you'll pay the current price for your new tier and keep it as long as that subscription stays active.'
One discrepancy we could not settle. The only archived copy of SpicyChat's own price feed from before the change, from December 2025, lists the two dearer yearly plans at $149.50 and $249.50, not the $149.95 and $249.95 the FAQ gives. Nothing was captured in between, so the yearly 'before' prices above are SpicyChat's own figures from the FAQ.
In pounds, the plans now cost £4.95, £16.95 and £25.95 a month and £50.00, £169.95 and £259.95 a year. SpicyChat did not publish the old pound prices. It says 'Euro pricing matches USD pricing.'
