Candy AI review: the vertical's biggest brand, receipt-checked

Candy AI (candy.ai) is the app every "best AI girlfriend" listicle puts first — usually with an affiliate link and no evidence. We did what we do instead: opened every public surface logged-out, pulled the US-served pricing page, and read the terms of service line by line. This is what we verified first-hand on 2026-07-06, with screenshots. Where something needs a paid account to measure, we say so — scores wait for our standardized bench, not vibes.

The short version

This is the most polished product we've opened in the vertical, run by its biggest operator (EverAI Limited, Malta — 50 million users claimed), and its billing has a genuinely rare property: every plan renews at the price you signed up at. No $2.99-then-$19.95 trap. The fine print bites elsewhere — a 24-hour refund window, tokens that vanish when you cancel, and a contractual right to delete characters without refunds. The feature sprawl (Shorts, Roulette, interactive stories, a Live Action beta) is Candy chasing trends fast; the Live Action mode is CamSoda AI's signature live-show mechanic, still in "Beta v2" here while it's the native attraction there.

What Candy AI actually is

First question, as always: who runs it? EverAI Limited, registration C107181, Santa Venera, Malta — named in the footer, in §1 of the terms, and on the pricing page itself. The billing descriptor is disclosed up front: the charge shows as "EverAI" on your statement. Support is a real Zendesk operation, the legal set is complete (underage policy, blocked-content policy, DMCA, complaint and content-removal channels), and the site ships fully localized in a dozen languages. This is the corporate end of the AI-girlfriend market — for better (paper trail, self-serve cancellation) and worse (growth mechanics everywhere, including a holiday-reskinned "70% off" banner that is, as far as we can tell, the standing annual-plan discount wearing a costume).

One paper-trail difference from CamSoda AI: Candy's §2257 page is an exemption statement — "purely AI-generated content platform where no real individuals are portrayed," so the record-keeping law "is not applicable" — with no records custodian named. Consistent with a pure-AI product; just note that CamSoda, coming from the cam industry, names a custodian and entity anyway.

Chat: polished composer, wall at the first message

Character pages live at clean URLs (/ai-girlfriend/<name>) and render fully logged-out: profile card, photo carousel, greeting message, and a complete composer — text box, "Show me the scene: Image / Video" request buttons, and a voice-call icon. Type a message and hit send, though, and the Create Account modal opens (email + password, or Google / Discord / X). Zero messages leave the box without an account — same funnel shape we documented at CamSoda AI, and worth knowing before you click any "chat now" button expecting a taste.

Live Action: CamSoda's headline feature, in beta

Every character has a Live Action mode (labeled Beta v2): an AI-generated video stream with an "Ask Anything" box and a sidebar menu of actions to trigger, gated behind an XP/level system — Level 1 starts you at 0/35 XP with tame actions ("Do some bird watching," "Put a flower in your hair"), and "+11 Actions" sit behind signup. If that mechanic sounds familiar, it's because it is CamSoda AI's entire signature: the cam-site tip-menu loop rebuilt on generated video, XP levels and all. Candy shipping it as "Beta v2" tells you two things: the feature set here follows the market fast, and if live-show mechanics are specifically what you're after, the native version is further along — that comparison is the whole subject of our CamSoda AI vs Candy AI page.

Around the core chat sit the growth surfaces: Candy Shorts (vertical video "series" per character), Candy Roulette, clickable interactive stories, and at least one cam-style "/cams/" page that a LIVE tile on the homepage points to. None of it is testable without an account; all of it signals where this product wants to pull you — from chatting to watching to paying per interaction.

Pricing: the real numbers, and one genuinely honest property

From the US-served pricing page on 2026-07-06 (the page is server-rendered, so these are the operator's own numbers, not a reseller's):

Plan Advertised Billed as
Free account $0 — email or social signup Free tier limits unverified (bench pass pending)
12 months $3.99/mo ("70% off") $47.88/year
3 months $8.99/mo ("35% off") $26.97/quarter
1 month $13.99/mo $13.99/month
1–2 week plans $5.60/wk · $9.79/2wk ~1.5–1.7× the monthly rate, pro-rated

The line that matters, printed on every plan card: "Renews automatically for the same price and term." In a vertical where the two other apps we've receipt-checked renew at 6.7× ($2.99 → $19.95, CamSoda) and 2× ($12.99 → $25.99, DreamGF) their headline price, paying the sticker price forever is — genuinely — a selling point. Premium includes 100 tokens/month; images, video, and voice beyond that draw from token packs, whose burn rates we'll measure in the paid bench.

Candy AI pricing page rendered from a UK vantage showing £3.99, £8.99 and £13.99 per month plans — same numerals as the US dollar prices
The same pricing page loaded from a European vantage, captured 2026-07-06: £3.99 / £8.99 / £13.99 — identical numerals to the US dollar prices, in a stronger currency. UK buyers pay roughly 27% more for the same plans.

Two quieter findings from comparing vantages: the weekly and bi-weekly plans appear in the US-served HTML but not in the UK browser view (geo-gated or A/B-tested — either way, the short plans are the expensive way to buy), and the currency localization is same-numeral: $13.99 becomes £13.99, not the exchange-rate equivalent. Our pricing table tracks all of this per app.

Fine print, verified in their terms

Is it safe to use?

On logged-out evidence: the operator is identifiable everywhere it should be, the statement descriptor is disclosed ("EverAI" — discreet, though searchable), payments take cards or crypto, cancellation is self-serve in settings, and the policy set is complete, including underage and blocked-content policies. The usual caveat applies with extra force at 50-million-user scale: your chats live on the operator's servers under Malta law, and every privacy property is the operator's word, not something we can audit from outside. Write accordingly.

What we haven't tested yet

Everything behind the account wall: actual free-tier message limits, chat quality and memory depth, image/video generation quality, token burn rates per feature, voice calls, and how far the Live Action beta escalates past Level 1. That's the standardized paid bench — S1 through S7 in our published methodology — and it's why this review carries no score yet. When the bench runs, the score and dated receipts land here and on the tracker profile.

Verdict: who should try it

If you want the mainstream pick — biggest operator, cleanest billing behavior we've verified in the vertical, polished multi-surface product — Candy AI is the reasonable default, and the annual plan is the rational way to buy it if you stay. Go in knowing the 24-hour refund window, treat tokens as perishable, and don't get attached to any single character the platform could de-list. If the live-show mechanic is the draw, read the head-to-head first — the native version is further along. And if you're comparing the field, the Candy AI alternatives page ranks every tracked app on the same data.

FAQ

Is Candy AI free?

You can browse characters and open any chat logged-out — the composer, image/video request buttons, and the character greeting all render. But the first message you try to send opens the Create Account modal (email, Google, Discord, or X). After signup there is a free tier; how many free messages it actually allows is one of the things our paid bench pass measures, so we do not quote a number we have not verified.

How much does Candy AI really cost?

From the US-served pricing page on 2026-07-06: $13.99/month, $8.99/month billed quarterly ($26.97), or $3.99/month billed annually ($47.88). The server also lists weekly ($5.60/week) and bi-weekly ($9.79/2-weeks) plans — the most expensive way to buy, at roughly 1.5–1.7× the monthly rate. Every plan states it renews automatically at the same price and term, and Premium includes 100 tokens per month; heavier image/video use means token packs on top.

Does Candy AI renew at a higher price?

No — and that is worth stating plainly, because it is not the vertical norm. Each Candy AI plan card says "Renews automatically for the same price and term." Compare CamSoda AI (intro $0.99–$2.99/mo renewing at $19.95/mo per its terms) or DreamGF ($12.99 first payment renewing at $25.99/mo). The number you sign up at is the number you keep paying.

Who owns Candy AI, and is it legit?

EverAI Limited, a Malta company (registration C107181, Santa Venera), named consistently in the footer, the terms of service, and on the pricing page. It is one of the biggest operators in the space — the pricing page claims 50 million users worldwide. Support runs through Zendesk, and there is a full set of legal/policy pages including an underage policy and a blocked-content policy.

What shows up on my bank statement?

The pricing page states the charge appears as 'EverAI' on your bank statement — the parent company's name, not 'Candy AI.' Discreet relative to the brand, though EverAI is one Google search away. The site accepts Visa, Mastercard, and cryptocurrency.

Can I get a refund from Candy AI?

You have 24 hours after payment to request one — that applies to both subscriptions and token packs, and only card purchases can be refunded, so crypto payments are effectively final. EU/UK users get the statutory 14-day withdrawal right, but the terms apply it to the initial purchase only (not renewals), with the refund prorated for usage. After the 24-hour window: no refunds, including for characters the platform later removes.

How do I cancel Candy AI, and what happens to my tokens?

Cancellation is self-serve: Settings → Unsubscribe, effective at the end of the current billing period. Any remaining tokens expire at that point and are not restored if you resubscribe later — so spend the balance down before the period ends. A chargeback cancels the account immediately and revokes premium access and tokens.

Provenance

Everything above was verified on 2026-07-06 from two vantages: the server-rendered US pricing page and terms of service (fetched and archived), and a logged-out browser session from Europe (homepage, character pages, chat composer, signup wall, Live Action Beta v2, pricing page in GBP). Screenshots are unedited captures from that session.
