Janitor AI: what it costs, what's free, and what it allows
Janitor AI is free, and its only subscription, janitor+, costs $12.99 a month: the same price on the website, the App Store and Google Play. No yearly plan is offered. Subscribers can also buy credits for janitor+ Router, which is billed per token, so heavy users can spend more than $12.99.
What we checked: 19 pages on janitorai.com, the App Store, Google Play, help.janitorai.com and Trustpilot, with the prices re-read from a US connection on 2026-09-27. Everything was read logged out and nothing was bought. We kept 53 quotes word for word (the receipts at the bottom) and a dated screenshot.

What we found
- janitor+ adds five times the context for memory, unlimited priority messages, a monthly allowance of swipes on frontier models, and cosmetic extras such as a golden username and checkmark.
- Janitor's own setup guide describes a route that costs less than janitor+ for heavy use: connect an OpenRouter key and use a free DeepSeek model, 50 messages a day, or 1,000 a day after a one-time $10 paid to OpenRouter.
- janitor+ Router, launched July 30, 2026, is a second paid layer: web only, for subscribers, billed per token at prices shown for each model. Its credits are non-refundable, even unused or expired ones.
- The mobile apps ship with NSFW content switched off; the website does not.
- The store apps hide NSFW by default ('Safe Mode') to stay in the App Store and Google Play, but one toggle on the website ('Enable NSFW for App') makes the app 'function exactly the same as the site'.
- NSFW on Janitor is text-only: nude or pornographic images are banned outright, even censored ones, unlike image-generating companion apps.
- Unlike SpicyChat, Janitor's incest ban covers blood relatives only; its guidelines say step-sibling and adoptive relationships are not covered.
- Account deletion is described two ways: the help center says it is permanent and cannot be recovered, while the privacy policy (Sept 17, 2026) describes a deactivation grace period in which you can restore the account.
- In the stores Janitor calls itself 'Interactive Stories' in the Books category; the Play rating (Mature 17+) sits below its own 18+ terms.
What Janitor AI is
In the app stores Janitor calls itself an interactive-stories app: you chat with characters to shape a story, and users write the characters. Platforms: web at janitorai.com plus official iOS and Android apps. The App Store listing is 'Janitor: Interactive Stories', iPhone only, id6692609366; Google Play id com.janitor.ai. The Android app is still labelled a beta on Google Play. janitor+ is the first thing Janitor has ever charged for, and the founder's note on the plus page promises the free version stays.
Janitor AI is run by JanitorAI Inc., a US company; its terms are governed by Delaware law. Payments are handled partly by a Cyprus affiliate, Dulova Investments Limited, which can appear as the charging company.
- Free chat with user-made characters: The free tier includes unlimited chats with millions of bots on the standard models, with about 9k tokens of context.
- Bring your own model (proxy): Users can connect outside models such as DeepSeek through OpenRouter by pasting their own API key into Janitor.
- Chat memory: Each chat has a memory box you fill in yourself; the help page warns the free model only reads around 8-9k tokens at once.
- Scripts and lorebooks: Creators can attach scripts and lorebooks that feed background details to a character when keywords come up.

What Janitor AI allows
- Adult sexual content between consenting adult characters is allowed in text, with named exceptions.
- Sexual or romantic bots must be tagged 'Limitless'; 'Limited' bots must have no sexual or romantic content.
- NSFW is text-only: pornographic or nude images are banned, including censored ones, and avatars must be fit for public display.
- Blood-relative incest is banned, but step-sibling and adoptive relationships are explicitly not covered by the ban.
- Other bans: any minor characters (including ambiguous-age ones), age regression, necrophilia, real animals, living politicians, dictators and real non-celebrity people. The terms also ban gore, bestiality and sexual violence.
- The mobile apps start in a 'Safe Mode' with NSFW off: NSFW bots are hidden, the model is tuned to SFW replies and some explicit words are blocked.
- Turning on 'Enable NSFW for App' in the website's settings makes the app work the same as the site.
Age rules and verification
- Users must be 18 or older; under-18s are barred from the site, accounts and communities.
- Users suspected of being under 18 are permanently banned.
- Only users in Australia, Brazil and the UK (detected by IP) must pass an age check, run by k-ID: face age estimation, ID scan or AgeKey. Janitor gets only a yes or no.
- Janitor says it has no plans to extend age checks elsewhere, so US users are not checked.
- App Store age rating: 18+, with in-app controls.
- Google Play rates it Mature 17+ for sexual content, one year below the terms' 18+ minimum.

Privacy: what happens to your chats

- Who can read your chats
- Automated systems scan content on the platform for illegal or banned material, and human reviewers look at content that users report. The terms do not say whether private chats are scanned. Support and security staff may access account information to handle requests or investigate abuse.
- Training on your chats
- Chat conversations are collected data, and the policy lists research to improve its AI systems as one use of collected data. It does not say plainly whether chats train models or offer an opt-out.
- Sharing with third parties
- Data is shared with service providers for hosting, analytics, payments, support and marketing.
- Selling your data
- Janitor says it does not sell personal data under California law.
- How long they keep it
- Deleting an account does not erase everything at once: email and sign-in records can stay in deleted-account records.
- Encryption
- Data is encrypted in transit over HTTPS; no end-to-end encryption of chats is claimed.
- What the store privacy labels say
- Apple App Privacy: data collected includes contact info, user content, identifiers, usage and diagnostics, all marked 'not linked to you'; no tracking section is shown. Google Play Data safety: no data shared with third parties, encrypted in transit, and you can request deletion.
Renewal, refunds, cancelling and deleting your account
- Renewal: Billed in advance and renews each period until cancelled. Janitor can change the price from your next billing cycle after giving notice.
- Refunds: Subscription fees are generally non-refundable, except where the terms or the law require it or support confirms a fault.
- Refunds: Router credits are final sale, even unused or expired, unless Janitor discontinues janitor+ or Router.
- Cancelling: Web: Settings, Billing, Manage Subscription (handled by Stripe). App subscriptions: through the App Store or Google Play.

- Your account: To delete your account: Settings, Security tab, scroll to the bottom, 'Delete account', then enter a 6-digit code sent by email. Support cannot delete accounts for you, so without access to that email you cannot delete it.

- Your account: The privacy policy describes a grace period instead: the account is first deactivated and can be restored by signing back in before the scheduled deletion date.
