SoulGen: what it costs, what's free, and what it allows

SoulGen Pro costs $12.99 a month or $90.99 a year ($7.58 a month) and gives 100 credits a month (1,200 a year). Everything runs on credits: a chat message costs 0.2, an image 1 to 8, and 5 seconds of video 10 to 40, so one high-end 1080p clip uses 40% of a month's credits.

What we checked: 13 pages on soulgen.ai, the App Store and Trustpilot, with the prices re-read from a US connection on 2026-09-27. Everything was read logged out and nothing was bought. We kept 74 quotes word for word (the receipts at the bottom) and a dated screenshot.

What we found

• Yearly billing nearly halves the price of a credit: 7.6 cents against 13 cents on monthly. The dollar figures in the credit table below use the monthly rate.
• Video got dearer as new models arrived. From July to August 21 the top model cost 24 credits per 5 seconds at 1080p. SoulOmni 2.0 Turbo, added by September 11, costs 40.
• The monthly plan is labelled 'No recurring fees' on the pricing page, yet SoulGen's Terms of Service explain how to cancel a renewing subscription through PayPal. The two pages contradict each other, so check your PayPal automatic payments after buying.
• The yearly discount shrank: every snapshot we took from July 6 to August 21 advertised '70% off'; since September 11 it says '42% off'. Those older snapshots did not capture the dollar price.
• Real-person likeness tools are core product, not edge cases: 'Looks Like' puts an uploaded person's face on a generated character (2 credits vs 1), Human Modeling needs 'a photo containing a clear face', Smart Edit edits 'any images' you upload by prompt, and a /faceswap page (title 'AI Face Swap App: Upload and Swap Video/ Image') plus UI text for photo, video and VR180 face swap exist behind login. No rule requires the pictured person's consent beyond the generic privacy/publicity clause. Screen against the no-nudify policy before any promotion.
• The terms ban uploading or sharing 'pornographic' content while the Pro plan sells 'Remove blur'; the site never says what is blurred.
• Age rules contradict each other: the privacy policy says 18+, but the terms only require contractual legal age and let minors use it under parental supervision, and the EU clause allows under-18s with a guardian's permission. No age verification is described anywhere.
• Unusually short retention: prompts and non-published creations are deleted after 7 days, and the terms promise user content is never used for model training.
• The account-deletion dialog says it cancels 'an active auto-renewing subscription', contradicting the pricing page's 'No recurring fees' label on the $12.99 monthly plan.

What SoulGen is

The company describes SoulGen as an AI image and video generation platform for realistic portraits, anime characters and AI video. The homepage now leads with video generation (talking characters with lip-sync) rather than 'AI girlfriend' images. SoulGen is web-only: the US App Store search returns no SoulGen app, and a Google Play search for 'soulgen' shows no SoulGen listing. SoulGen is operated by Synapse AI Limited, a company incorporated in Hong Kong.

The terms are governed by Hong Kong law and disputes go to Hong Kong courts; the terms and privacy policy both carry a March 2026 revision date.

• AI video generation: Image-to-video, text-to-video, reference-to-video (up to 10 images and 3 videos as references), video extend and a beta video editor, with clips up to 30 seconds on SoulOmni 2.0.
• AI character images: Text-to-image characters in three modes: Real Character, Anime Character and DreamTwin Character, with several photoreal styles.
• Looks Like (face reference): Upload a reference photo and the AI draws a character with that person's face; it costs 2 credits per image versus 1 without it.
• Human Modeling: Generates images from an uploaded photo that must contain a clear face, 3 credits per image.
• Photo editing (Smart Edit / Classic Edit): Upload any image, select regions, and add, remove or modify elements with a text prompt.
• Outpainting (Extend): Resizes an image to a new ratio and fills the gaps with AI.
• Face Swap: A face swap tool for photos and videos, including VR180 video, on its own /faceswap page.
• Soul Chat (companion chat): Chat with preset AI characters or create your own 'soulmate'; text chat costs 0.2 credits a message, in-chat images 2 credits, voice calls 1 credit a minute, creating a soulmate 10 credits.
• Pro plan perks: Pro includes 100 credits a month, removes blur, priority queue and multitasking. (paid)
• API: The site offers a developer API (API center in the menu).
• Free trial: There is a free version meant for testing; the site's UI text refers to a number of free trial images, but the public pages do not state how many.

What SoulGen allows

• The terms forbid uploading or sharing pornographic, obscene, lewd or indecent content, and content that invades privacy or publicity rights. The clause covers what you upload, share or transmit; it does not separately address what the generator outputs.
• The terms forbid content containing a third party's private or personal information without their consent. This is the closest the rules come to addressing uploads of other people's photos; no clause explicitly bans face uploads of real people, celebrities or face swaps without consent.
• The terms forbid content that may harm or exploit children.
• Uploads and creations pass an automated check: the site's UI text rejects uploads that may contain inappropriate content and asks you to change your prompt if a creation is flagged.
• Free users get blurred output: 'Remove blur' is listed as a paid Pro benefit. The site does not say what content triggers the blur.
• Real-person likeness is a headline feature: the homepage markets making a character look like a real person from an uploaded reference photo, with no consent requirement stated on that page.

Age rules and verification

• The privacy policy says the app is not intended for anyone under 18 (or a different local minimum age).
• The terms of service only require the legal age to form a contract, and say users under that age may use the service under a parent's or guardian's supervision. This contradicts the privacy policy's 18+ line.
• For EU residents the privacy policy sets 18 as the minimum but still allows younger users with a parent's or guardian's permission.

Training on your chats

The terms promise generated content is not used for model training, advertising or other business use.

Sharing with third parties

Personal information may be disclosed to affiliates, contractors and service providers, and to a buyer in a sale of the company; named third-party trackers are Firebase Crashlytics and Google sign-in. Data is held in Hong Kong and may be handed over on lawful requests from Hong Kong courts or police.

How long they keep it

Prompts and generated images you do not post publicly are stored for 7 days, then deleted automatically; posts to the community stay until you delete them. Account personal information is kept for as long as the account exists.

Deleting your data

A Delete Account button permanently deletes all your data including creations, purchase records and collections; it cannot be undone.

Renewal, refunds, cancelling and deleting your account

• Refunds: Only within 14 days of the payment, and only if no credits were used and no image created since.
• Refunds: Sale-priced purchases cannot be refunded; the yearly plan is currently sold at 42% off.
• Refunds: The terms threaten a permanent ban for disputing a charge after creating an image.
• Cancelling: PayPal subscribers cancel inside PayPal; everyone else by email or the feedback form in their SoulGen account.
• Your account: Delete your account with the Delete Account button; the confirmation warns it erases remaining credits, uploads, purchase history and settings, and cancels any auto-renewing subscription.
• Your account: The deletion flow cancels an active auto-renewing subscription, which conflicts with the pricing page's 'No recurring fees' label on the monthly plan.
