Talkie: what it costs, what's free, and what it allows

Talkie+ comes in two tiers on the website: Standard at $9.99 a month and Pro at $24.99 a month. Standard is $26.99 a quarter or $49.99 for the first year, then $95.99 a year; Pro is $59.99 a quarter or $199.99 a year. Text and voice chat are free, with ads. On the US App Store, Talkie is only sold as 'Talkie Lab - AI Playground'.

What we checked: 20 pages on talkie-ai.com, the App Store, Google Play, reddit.com and Trustpilot, with the prices re-read from a US connection on 2026-09-27. Everything was read logged out and nothing was bought. We kept 83 quotes word for word (the receipts at the bottom) and a dated screenshot.

What we found

• The yearly Standard price nearly doubles at renewal: $49.99 for the first year, $95.99 a year after. Even at $95.99 it is cheaper than twelve months at $9.99 ($119.88).
• There is no app called Talkie in the US App Store. The old 'Talkie: Soulful AI' listing is gone, and Talkie's own download link sends US iPhone users to the Canadian store page of 'Talkie Lab - AI Playground', which comes from the same company and carries Talkie's purchases. On Google Play, 'Talkie: Creative AI Community' is still listed in the US.
• What Pro adds over Standard: permanent memory (Standard has extended memory, free users short-term), 30 free gacha draws a month instead of 3, the reasoning model free for 200 uses a day, up to 300 image generations instead of 200, and 7 reply regenerations instead of 2.
• Talkie's own documents lag behind its checkout. The terms (updated April 23, 2025) say subscriptions are monthly and sold only through app stores, but the website sells quarterly and yearly plans by card; the subscription FAQ still calls Pro 'coming soon'.
• Gems are sold in packs from $1.99 to $49.99 on the App Store, but no public page says how many gems a pack holds or what a paid gacha draw costs.
• Age mismatch: the terms and privacy policy let 14-year-olds use Talkie, Google Play rates it Teen, but the only US iPhone build (Talkie Lab) is rated 18+ with Age Assurance and Parental Controls.
• Google Play's Data safety says 'No data collected', but Talkie's privacy policy lists messages (text and voice), account, profile, device and usage data as collected. The label understates what the policy admits.
• The one primary explanation for the 2024 App Store removal is Talkie's own staff: first 'a technical problem', then (January 2025) 'technical fixes and new content changes to comply with Apple's new standards'. The app came back as Talkie Lab in March 2025, not as a relisting.
• Talkie's US iPhone presence is an app whose store description is a generic 'AI playground' (MiniMax Text-01, DeepSeek-V3), not character chat. The old 'Talkie: Soulful AI' listing is 404 and Apple's lookup no longer knows its id.
• Talkie's guidelines ban even suggestive content, yet Google Play still lists 'Sexual Themes' on the Android app.

What Talkie is

What it is: a character chat app where users talk to AI personas, many created by other users, and earn collectible cards. Platforms: web at talkie-ai.com, Android as 'Talkie: Creative AI Community' on Google Play (US), and iPhone as 'Talkie Lab - AI Playground' in the US App Store, both from SUBSUP. Every Talkie web page footer says the product is powered by MiniMax, and the FAQ says the characters run on MiniMax's AI. Talkie's privacy policy names SUBSUP PTE. LTD. as the operator of the Talkie mobile and web apps.

SUBSUP is a Singapore company: its Google Play developer address and the privacy policy's Data Protection Officer address are both in Singapore. Although the company is in Singapore, the privacy policy says the service is run from the US and data may be stored and processed there. The US iPhone app Talkie Lab was first released on February 11, 2025. The Talkie Lab App Store description markets a general multimodal AI playground (MiniMax and DeepSeek models), not character chat.

In December 2024 a Talkie staff member (u/Molly_Talkie) told r/talkie users the iOS app was temporarily unavailable because of a 'technical problem'. On January 10, 2025 the same staff account said Apple had taken the app down and Talkie was making technical fixes and content changes to meet Apple's new standards. On March 28, 2025 staff announced Talkie was back in the iOS App Store under a new name, Talkie Lab, and that old accounts work in it. The original US App Store listing 'Talkie: Soulful AI' (id 6450140383) returns 404 today, and Apple's US lookup for that id returns nothing.

• Character library (user-created): Users browse a large grid of AI characters, most made by other users; the site says over 50,000 are created daily.
• Character creator: You can create your own character and set its personality, appearance, voice and special skills.
• Voice: Characters can talk with you by text or voice.
• Image, video, audio and music creation: The Android listing advertises AI image, video, audio and music creation tools.
• Memory: Characters have limited memory and forget older conversations; longer memory is a Talkie+ perk: Standard gets 'Extended' retention, Pro gets 'Permanent'. (paid)
• Collectible cards and gems: Chats earn collectible cards that users can trade for virtual currency; gems are sold as in-app purchases.
• Creator revenue share: Character creators can earn a revenue share based on what users spend.
• Crisis referrals: Talkie says it detects signs of suicidal ideation or self-harm and shows a notice with crisis referrals, including 988 in the US.

Apple's US listing shows these in-app purchases, word for word. Apple shows at most ten, and does not always say which plan a line belongs to, so we list them exactly as shown rather than guess.

What you get free

• Text and voice chat are free. Talkie's terms say it can withdraw free use from anyone at its discretion.
• Free users get short-term memory and cannot edit or lock memories, and the app shows ads.

Gems, gacha and other extras

What Talkie allows

• The community guidelines ban both explicit sexual content and anything suggestive, so Talkie is a no-NSFW platform by its own rules.
• Banned categories named in the guidelines include nudity, pornography, non-consensual content, sexualised poses or descriptions, and (oddly specific) tentacle characters.
• The FAQ repeats that pornographic and violent content is prohibited by the terms.
• Any sexualisation of minors, including fictional minor characters, is prohibited.
• Character settings are moderated before changes go live, and characters that break the rules can be hidden.
• Google Play still rates the Android app Teen but lists 'Sexual Themes' as a content descriptor, which sits oddly with rules that ban suggestive content.

Age rules and verification

• The terms set the minimum age at 14 (15 or 16 in some countries listed), not 18.
• The privacy policy also says the service is not intended for anyone under 14.
• The US App Store rates the iPhone app (Talkie Lab) 18+ with in-app controls, listing Age Assurance and Parental Controls.
• Google Play rates the Android app Teen.
• The privacy policy lists age verification of registered users as a purpose, but no Talkie page we read says how it is done (ID, selfie or third party).

Privacy: what happens to your chats

Who can read your chats

The community guidelines say content is monitored by people as well as AI. The policy does not say staff routinely read private chats. The FAQ answers the 'are replies from humans' question: characters are AI only, with no humans controlling them. The FAQ calls AI chats private, while noting content is filtered automatically.

Training on your chats

Your messages are used so the chatbot can 'learn from your interactions'. The policy does not use the words 'train models', but chat content is also listed for analysing and improving the service.

Sharing with third parties

The policy promises never to share your conversations or uploaded photos with advertising partners or use them for marketing. Service providers (hosting, IT, support, analytics) receive your information, including affiliates.

Selling your data

Message content is marked 'We do not sell/share' in the California table, but website visit data (clicks, IP, advertising ID) goes to ad partners, which the policy says may count as a 'sale' under US state law. You can opt out via 'Your Privacy Choices'.

How long they keep it

No fixed retention period: data is kept as long as needed for the purposes collected.

Deleting your data

The account deletion page says deleting your account permanently erases your conversations. The data export tool only covers email, username, gender and age, not your chats.

Encryption

The policy claims data is encrypted in transit and stored on secured servers; it makes no end-to-end encryption claim.

What the store privacy labels say

App Store privacy label (Talkie Lab): identifiers may be used to track you across other companies' apps and sites; data collected is listed as not linked to you. Google Play Data safety claims 'No data collected' while also listing app activity shared with third parties. That conflicts with the privacy policy, which lists messages, account and device data as collected. Play Data safety shares app interactions and in-app search history, for functionality, analytics and personalisation.

Renewal, refunds, cancelling and deleting your account

• Renewal: Website plans renew automatically until cancelled; the terms say to cancel before each renewal to avoid the next charge.
• Renewal: Standard yearly renews at $95.99 after the $49.99 first year.
• Refunds: Gem purchases are generally not refunded, except for system errors or duplicate charges.
• Refunds: No refunds for part of a subscription month; all fees are non-refundable as far as the law allows.
• Cancelling: Website subscriptions: 'Manage Billing' in your account. App store subscriptions are managed in the app store you paid through.
• Your account: The terms say you delete your account by deactivating it.
• Your account: On the web, the footer's 'Delete Account' link opens talkie-ai.com/delete, which has a 'Deactivate Account' button (sign-in required). Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.
• Your account: Characters you created stay up after you delete your account, but their creator shows as 'Null'.
• Your account: The privacy policy also points to account settings for deletion.
