Replika: what it costs, what's free, and what it allows
Replika does not publish its prices outside the app. Chatting is free for good and there is no free trial; Pro, Ultra and Platinum are priced on the in-app subscription screen. The only public price list is Apple's: its US listing shows monthly purchases at $7.99 and $14.99, yearly ones at $49.99 and $69.99, and Replika Platinum at $89.99.
What we checked: 30 pages on help.replika.com, Google Play, replika.com, the App Store and Trustpilot, with the prices re-read from a US connection on 2026-09-27. Everything was read logged out and nothing was bought. We kept 53 quotes word for word (the receipts at the bottom) and a dated screenshot.

What we found
- Apple's list does not say which plan each price belongs to, and Replika's help center says only that the cost of each plan is shown in the app and the store. Sites quoting exact Pro or Ultra prices are reading their own account, their region or an older screen.
- Our July check recorded Pro at $19.99 a month. Today the only $19.99 item on Apple's US list is a gem pack, and the highest monthly subscription line is $14.99. Apple shows ten purchases at most, so a plan outside that list cannot be ruled out.
- Ultra is sold as an annual plan only, per the help center. The help center still mentions Lifetime subscribers, but no lifetime purchase is on sale in either store.
- Google Play rates Replika Teen ('Diverse Content: Discretion Advised'), while Apple rates it 18+ and Replika's terms and privacy policy ban under-18s. The store ratings disagree with each other and with the terms.
- Romance and 'romantic selfies' are Pro-only and blurred for free users, the terms ban 'obscene, pornographic' uploads, and Apple's rating lists no sexual content. No current Replika page allows erotic roleplay.
- Help article 'Is there a human chatting with me?' says messages are 'never read or responded to by people', while the privacy policy uses messages for enforcing terms, trains safety systems on anonymised chat samples, and protects stored data with 'role-based access controls'.
- Deleting chats means deleting the account; chats then linger up to 60 days, and payment records at least 10 years. Deleting the account does not cancel a store subscription.
- Apple's label declares tracking and third-party-advertising data; the policy says only website-visitor data goes to ad partners and that this 'may be considered a sale'. Chats are excluded.
What Replika is
Replika is an AI companion chatbot; you pick the relationship (friend, partner, mentor). The Play listing dates the app to 2017. Platforms: iOS, Android, web (my.replika.com) and a beta Meta Quest VR app. Replies come from a mix of Replika's own models, third-party LLMs and scripted dialogue.
Founded by Eugenia Kuyda, per Replika's help centre. The homepage says Replika was rebuilt from the ground up and shows a user counter. Replika is run by Luka, Inc., a Delaware company operating in San Francisco. The terms are governed by California law and use mandatory individual AAA arbitration with a class-action waiver.
- Romantic partner status: Any relationship status other than Friend (romantic partner, mentor, sibling) needs Pro. (paid)
- Unblurred romantic messages and selfies: Pro unblurs messages and photos, including romantic selfies. (paid)
- Voice calls and AR: Pro adds voice messages, background calls, roleplay during voice and AR calls, and premium voices. (paid)

- Platinum: Platinum adds real-time video recognition, Training Mode, 'Read Replika's Mind' and selfie videos. (paid)

- Roleplay: Roleplay uses *asterisk* actions in chat.

What Replika allows
- Romance is a Pro feature: romantic partner status opens 'romantic conversations'.
- The terms forbid uploading obscene or pornographic content. None of Replika's pages mention sexual, erotic or NSFW content being allowed.
- You may not set up a companion to impersonate a real person (including an ex-partner) without their written consent.
- Replika's App Store rating lists only infrequent profanity and health or wellness topics, with no sexual content or nudity.
- Replika tells users in crisis to leave the app and call emergency services; it is not a substitute for professional help.
Age rules and verification
- Terms: under-18s may not use Replika.
- Privacy policy: minors found using the app are blocked and deleted.
- You can change your birthday for 24 to 48 hours; after that you must confirm your age to keep chatting. The method is not described.
- App Store age rating: 18+.
- Google Play content rating: Teen ('Diverse Content: Discretion Advised'), below the 18+ the terms require.

Privacy: what happens to your chats

- Who can read your chats
- Help centre: no human joins or answers your chats. This is about who replies; it does not say whether staff can view stored chats. The privacy policy lists messages among the data used to enforce its terms. Stored data sits behind 'role-based access controls', which means some staff roles do have access.
- Training on your chats
- Small, anonymised portions of chats are used to train Replika's own safety systems and improve the chatbot, not third-party LLMs. Your companion also learns from your own chats, and conversation data goes to third-party LLM providers that are contractually barred from training on it.
- Sharing with third parties
- Chats and in-app photos are never shared with ad partners or used for marketing.
- Selling your data
- Help centre: Replika does not sell your personal information. The privacy policy admits that sharing website-visitor data with ad partners may legally count as a 'sale' or 'sharing' (opt-out via the cookie policy). It does not cover chat content.
- How long they keep it
- Chats and profile data are kept up to 60 days after you leave; payment and account records for at least 10 years.
- Deleting your data
- You cannot delete your chat history without deleting the whole account. A GDPR erasure request through the support form is answered within one month.
- Encryption
- Data is encrypted in transit (SSL); the policy says stored data is on 'secure servers' but does not claim encryption at rest.
- What the store privacy labels say
- Apple 'App Privacy' label: identifiers and usage data are used to track you across other companies' apps and sites, and some data is linked to you for third-party advertising. Google Play Data safety: device IDs and app interactions are shared with third parties for analytics. Messages are not listed as collected, although the privacy policy collects them.
Renewal, refunds, cancelling and deleting your account
- Renewal: Plans renew automatically until you cancel.
- Refunds: All purchases are final and there are no partial-month refunds.
- Refunds: App Store and Google Play purchases can only be refunded by Apple or Google.
- Cancelling: Cancel where you subscribed: in-app or web settings, Google Play, Apple settings or PayPal. Deleting the app does not cancel.
- Cancelling: To change plans you must cancel and let the current plan run out first.
- Your account: In the app: Settings (gear) > Account Settings > Delete Replika, give a reason, enter your password, confirm. On the web: my.replika.com > gear > Account Settings > Delete my Account.
- Your account: Deletion is permanent and removes profile, chat history and photos.
- Your account: Deleting the app or account does not cancel a store subscription; cancel it in Apple or Google settings.

Is Replika free?
Yes. Replika's help center says chatting will always be free, though it can restrict free use at its discretion. There is no free trial of Pro, Ultra or Platinum.
How much is Replika Pro?
Replika shows prices only inside the app. Apple's US listing shows monthly purchases of $7.99 and $14.99 and yearly ones of $49.99 and $69.99 without naming the plan, plus Replika Platinum at $89.99.
Can I get a refund from Replika?
Replika treats all purchases as final and gives no partial-month refunds. For App Store or Google Play purchases you have to ask Apple or Google.
Why is Replika no longer intimate?
Replika's own pages today put romance behind Pro: 'romantic partner' status and unblurred romantic messages and selfies are paid features, and free accounts stay on 'Friend'. The terms ban obscene or pornographic content, and no current Replika page says sexual or erotic roleplay is allowed. The pages do not explain the change.
Is Replika free / can I use Replika without paying?
Yes: basic chatting and avatar customisation are free, and Replika says chatting 'will always be free'. Romantic status, unblurred romantic content, voice calls and advanced features need Pro, Ultra or Platinum. The subscription page adds that free access 'may be denied at Replika's discretion'.
