Promptchan: what it costs, what's free, and what it allows

Promptchan is free to start, with a daily allowance of Gems (its credits). Paid plans are Plus at $14.99 a month with 100 Gems, Premium at $23.99 with 400, and Pro at $33.99 with 800 plus unlimited basic generations. An image costs about 1 Gem; AI video, custom characters, voice calls and upscaling are Pro only.

What we checked: 14 pages on promptchan.com and Trustpilot, with the prices re-read from a US connection on 2026-09-27. Everything was read logged out and nothing was bought. We kept 71 quotes word for word (the receipts at the bottom) and a dated screenshot.

What we found

• Plus is the poor-value plan. Its 100 Gems work out at 15 cents each; Premium gives four times as many for $9 more (6 cents each), and Pro's 800 Gems plus unlimited basic images come to about 4 cents a Gem.
• Video starts at $33.99 a month. AI video is a Pro feature, and Promptchan does not publish what a clip costs, only that it is 'a handful of gems', shown on the button before you generate.
• The pricing page says 'Web, iOS and Android', but there is no Promptchan app on the US App Store or Google Play. 'Mobile' means the website saved to your home screen.
• Annual plans exist, according to the refund policy, which says they renew every 12 months and pay out their Gems monthly, but no annual price is shown before you sign up.
• Refunds are more generous than most in this category: 30 days from each charge, including an annual renewal, if you have not used 'significant AI services' and have cancelled first. Crypto payments are final.
• The strictest real-person rules of the three image apps checked: the terms ban depicting or impersonating celebrities, public figures or private individuals without consent and require 'explicit and verifiable consent' from anyone depicted. No photo-upload, face-reference or face-swap feature is visible on public pages (Tweak is shown editing the app's own generated characters), but the moderation policy says it scans 'uploads', so some upload path may exist behind login. It passes the no-nudify screen on public evidence only.
• Free creations are public by default and licensed to Promptchan 'perpetual, irrevocable' for its own promotion; private generation, the only way out of that licence, is a paid feature.
• The pricing page lists 'Web, iOS and Android', but neither the US App Store nor Google Play has a Promptchan app; it runs in the browser.
• The free tier is described two ways: the pricing and generator pages say a daily Gem allowance, while the homepage FAQ and tutorial say new accounts get a starter batch of free Gems and messages. Neither says how many.
• The privacy policy is dated June 29, 2024 and says nothing about chat logs, model training or encryption, even though AI chat, voice and video launched since; the moderation policy (Sept 10, 2025) confirms human moderators review content across the chatbot too.

What Promptchan is

Promptchan is an AI girlfriend site that generates images and videos from text prompts and offers companion chat. The homepage claims over 11 million users (the company's own counter, not verified). Promptchan is a product of VisionAI Labs Limited, registered in Dublin, Ireland. The terms are governed by the law of the Republic of Ireland.

The pricing page lists 'Web, iOS and Android' for every plan, but no Promptchan or VisionAI Labs app appears in US App Store or Google Play search results, so this likely means the website works in mobile browsers.

• Text-to-image generation: Describe a character or scene and generate it in photoreal, anime or illustrated styles, with pose, filter, emotion and body-attribute controls.
• Tweak (edit generated images): Change a generated character's outfit, setting or lighting with a text instruction while keeping the same character.
• Clone and remix: Load any public community creation's prompt and settings to make your own variation.
• AI video: Animate a generated image or generate video from text, add sound, and extend clips. Full-length video and extend are Pro only. (paid)
• AI girlfriend chat: Chat or story-mode roleplay with companions from the Discover feed; companions can send images of the scene.
• Custom characters: Build your own companion (appearance, personality, voice, backstory); included with Pro. (paid)
• Voice messages and calls: Characters can speak in an assigned voice; voice messages cost 1 Gem and calls 2 Gems; a couple of voices are free, and voice calling is listed under Pro.
• Private generation: Keeping creations out of the public gallery is only available on paid plans. (paid)

What Promptchan allows

• Uncensored image generation and uncensored chat are selling points on every plan.
• The generator opens with Safe Mode on, hiding NSFW until you change it.
• Non-consensual deepfake porn and AI child sexual abuse material are banned and lead to account termination; the terms claim all images are fictional and depict no real people.
• Real-person likeness is banned without consent: the terms forbid depicting or impersonating celebrities, public figures or private individuals without consent.
• Content touching anyone's privacy or publicity rights needs explicit, verifiable consent from the person depicted.
• Banned categories include sexual content with minors or characters presented as minors, including high school settings; incest (real or fictional); bestiality; snuff; scat; and illegal drug use.
• Generated characters' age slider starts at 18 (the API rejects lower values).
• AI systems scan prompts, outputs and uploads for CSAM, non-consensual intimate imagery and other banned content, and can block generation before delivery.
• No photo-upload, face-reference, face-swap or undress feature appears on the logged-out generator, chat or pricing pages: images come from text prompts, community clones or your own generations.

• The privacy policy repeats that the service is not for under-18s. No age verification method is described on the public pages.

Who can read your chats

A human moderation team reviews flagged and site-wide content, and the moderation policy covers image, video, chatbot and the community feed. The terms reserve the right to access, read, preserve and disclose information to enforce the terms, handle support requests or comply with legal requests.

Sharing with third parties

Anything created in public mode grants Promptchan a perpetual, irrevocable licence to reuse it, including in its own promotion; other users may also reuse it. In private mode the company claims no rights to your images and prompts; private mode requires a paid plan. Data is not shared outside the company except with consent, to perform the contract, for legitimate interests or legal obligations; Google Analytics and Google Ads cookies may share data with Google.

Selling your data

Your email is used for Promptchan's own marketing but not shared with other companies for their marketing. The policy does not otherwise mention selling data.

How long they keep it

Data is kept as long as necessary for the purposes collected, with no fixed period.

Deleting your data

You can request erasure of your personal data.

Renewal, refunds, cancelling and deleting your account

• Renewal: Card subscriptions renew automatically; crypto and G2A payments buy a fixed period that does not renew.
• Renewal: Annual plans renew at the end of each 12-month term and credit their Gems monthly. Promptchan can change fees with reasonable notice, never mid-cycle.
• Refunds: Within 30 days of a charge, only if you have not used significant AI services, and only after cancelling. After a refund, any remaining monthly Gems stop.
• Refunds: Crypto payments are final. Requests go through support and are reviewed case by case.
• Cancelling: Settings, then Manage plan. The plan stays active until the end of the billing cycle, with no further charges.
• Your account: You can terminate your account, which permanently removes access; subscriptions are cancelled from the settings page via Manage Plan. No step-by-step deletion guide was found on public pages.
